Much of You.

September 3, 2007

Quilting together patches of things I’ve read in the past couple of days:

Live in such a way that people look at your life & make much of your God . . . I conclude that what is most salty & bright in this insipid & dark world is the almost incomprehensible joy of Jesus’ followers in the midst of persecution & the hardships of life.” – John Piper, What Jesus Demands from the World

“& Jesus answered them, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.  Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth & dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.  Whoever loves his life will lose it, & whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life . . . Now is My soul troubled.  & what shall I say?  “Father, save Me from this hour”?  But for this purpose I have come to this hour.  Father, glorify Your name.'” (John 12:23-28)

“[Of James, the son of Zebedee] No sooner had Herod Agrippa been appointed governor of Judea, than, with a view to ingratiate himself with them, he raised a sharp persecution against Christians . . . as James was led to the place of martyrdom, his accuser was brought to repent of his conduct by the apostle’s extraordinary courage & undauntedness, & fell down at his feet to request his pardon, professing himself a Christian, & resolving that James should not receive the crown of martyrdom alone.  Hence, they were both beheaded at the same time.  Thus did the first apostolic martyr cheerfully & resolutely receive that cup, which he had told our Savior he was ready to drink.” – John Fox (or Foxe), Fox’s Book of Martyrs

Oh, to love Him more purely & deeply, that I might rejoice in anything, dishonor Him in nothing, & seek His glory in everything . . .

Look at what Jenna sent me yesterday. After recovering from the initial shock of hearing Olivia talk, I melted . . .

    Hi Tia 🙂

It doesnt seem very long ago when all the stuff with your grandpa had been going down. And I remember you very faithfully reading Scripture to him in korean when he was in the hospital. Thanks for the reminder: God is faithful.

    Miss you!
