Just say NO . . . to choking cares.

Portrait of a heart:

(With one of the “little” cousins on our way back from Catalina in August)

You may laugh, but the inside of my heart really did feel like this in the past couple months . . . all because I lost sight of what really mattered & became so overwhelmed by the cares of the world.

Left to myself:

“‘Other seed fell among thorns, & the thorns grew up & choked it, & it yielded no grain . . . They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world & the deceitfulness of riches & the desires for other things enter in & choke the word, & it proves unfruitful.'” (Mark 4:7, 18-19)

“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. & a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. & she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet & listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. & she went up to Him & said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.’ But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious & troubled about many things . . .'” (Luke 10:38-41)

Choked by the cares of the world.
Unfruitful.
Distracted with much.
Anxious.
Troubled.
About many things.

By the grace of God:

“‘& other seeds fell into good soil & produced grain, growing up & increasing & yielding thirtyfold & sixtyfold & a hundredfold . . . But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word & accept it & bear fruit, thirtyfold & sixtyfold & a hundredfold.'” (Mark 4:8, 20)

“‘ . . . but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.'” (Luke 10:41-42)

Good soil.
Growing. Increasing. Yielding. Bearing fruit.
The one necessary thing.
Good portion.
Not taken away.
She chose it.
