Whatever my God ordains is right.

February 14, 2011

Whatever my God ordains is right
In His love I am abiding
I will be still in all He does
And follow where He is guiding
He is my God; though dark my road
He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all.

Whatever my God ordains is right
He never will deceive me
He leads me by the proper path
I know He will not leave me
I take content, what He has sent
His hand can turn my griefs away
And patiently I wait His day.

Whatever my God ordains is right
Though now this cup in drinking
Bitter it seems to my faint heart
I take it all unshrinking
My God is true; each morn anew
Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart
And pain and sorrow shall depart.

Whatever my God ordains is right
Here shall my stand be taken
Though sorrow, or need, or death be mine
Yet I am not forsaken
My Father’s care circles me there
He holds me that I shall not fall
And so to Him I leave it all.

(Original lyrics by Samuel Rodigast, 1676.  Alternate lyrics and music by Mark Altrogge, 2007.)

  1. David Says:

Absolutely incomprehensible foolishness to the unbeliever … but precious eternal truth and comforting affirmation of loving sovereignty to tried and tested saints, passed on by those who have gone that way before and still true today.

I think I prefer the (slightly different) original, but the principles are the same.

If this post is in the same line as those (apart from the “ambition” ones) that have gone before … may the Lord strengthen you and help you. Joshua 1:9!

  2. tia Says:

david, i actually prefer the original one, too. :] and thank you for your continual encouragement. means so much more knowing these words come from a brother who’s tasted and seen His goodness when circumstances would scream otherwise.

  3. David Says:

Move on about 330 years to a favourite track from MercyMe … same truths, same heavenly Father, same comfort from a love that will not let us go …

I can count a million times
People asking me how I can
Praise You with all that I’ve gone through.
    The question just amazes me
    How can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You?

Maybe since my life was changed
    Long before these rainy days
It’s never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times

(Chorus) So I pray…Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there’ll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that’s what it takes to praise You
    Jesus, bring the rain

    I am Yours regardless of
The dark clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain
You who made a way for me
    By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what’s a little rain
    So I pray…chorus
