Ian calls me umma — the Korean word for mommy.  This past month, he started crying for me with ummaaa and crawling toward me with umma, umma.  I never gave real serious thought to what I wanted him to call me between mama, mommy, and umma.  But I guess umma came most naturally since that’s what I’ve called my own mom since I could speak.

But he only calls umma when he needs something, when he’s distressed, or when he hurt himself.  So I’ve only ever heard umma in more distressed tones.  I wonder when I’ll hear a gleeful umma! from him.

And the thought just crossed my mind: I wonder if God wonders the same about me. :]
